A story of determination!
One of our runners, Melody May, collected over $1000 for our Crusade Against Cancer Run in May, 2008.

I first started running in January 2008 and until March, I ran 3.6 km twice a week. When Bob Souch, a colleague in the office, heard that I was running he suggested that I sign up for the W.I.C.A.C run in May.

At first I thought that a 10km route was just too far. However, having a competitive spirit, I made up my mind to go for it. My goal was not only to complete the course in a reasonable time, but also to surpass the dollar amount of pledges collected by an individual. And so I started training - and collecting. The more I collected, the more it gave me the confidence and the will I needed to make sure that I not only completed the 10km, but that I would complete it in less than an hour. I felt that since I was making the commitment to challenge myself to do something that I'd never done before, I wouldn't have any trouble asking everyone around me to help out by donating to such a great cause. I figured donating was the easy part. - No training needed.
Race day for me was a culmination of excitement, hope and accomplishment. I achieved my goal and completed the race with time to spare, but more importantly I raised $1,000.00 for the West Island Crusade Against Cancer. Now that was the real accomplishment.
My goals for the 2009 run - to beat my run time from last year and to increase the amount of money that I can raise for the West Island Crusade Against Cancer.
